ICC supports IMO amendments on vessel air emissions
14 April 2008

ICC strongly supports the need for new, environmentally effective emission standards

ICC’s Committee on Maritime Transport acknowledges and supports the amendments on vessel air emissions proposed by the Marine Environment Protection Committee of the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) on 4 April 2008.

The new standards address the role and responsibility of the maritime industry in improving air quality and contributing to environmental protection on a global scale.

As per its statement published on 4 February 2008, ICC strongly supports the need for new, environmentally effective emission standards and would like to congratulate the IMO and all parties involved for their substantial efforts in achieving the amendments to the MARPOL Annex IV regulations.

ICC acknowledges that the IMO has taken into consideration many different views and opinions of governments, shipping organizations, councils and port and maritime communities in order to achieve this successful negotiation, which is the right step towards developing an internationally respected air emissions regime.
