Arbitration training in Portuguese and Spanish surpasses expectations
Paris, 17 July 2008

The training was praised for the high quality of speakers coupled with a mix of academic presentations and practical exercises.

ICC’s Institute of World Business Law offered its first advanced training course in international commercial arbitration in Spanish and Portuguese at ICC headquarters in Paris on 16 to 19 June. With 50 participants from over 14 countries, it was also the first training held in Portuguese.

The training was praised for the high quality of speakers coupled with a mix of academic presentations and practical exercises.

“The seminar has exceeded my expectations, regarding the high qualification of speakers and the organizers, as well as the excellent professional level of the participants,” said one participant, Lucila de Oliveira Carvalho, Partner, Advocacia Raul de Araujo Filho, Brazil. “ In general, the dynamics of the training permitted the relevant questions to be properly faced and discussed, including their merits, and this experience of interaction was very profitable for the participants, “ she said.

The training included:

- Simulation of an arbitration proceeding involving a set of complex circumstances

- Practical and technical presentations by renowned international arbitrators

- Presentations by members of the Secretariat of the ICC International Court of Arbitration on the practice of the Court

- Interactive discussion sessions

Participants also enjoyed the social programme which accompanied the three and a half day training, enabling them to build their professional networks.

ICC is organizing another conference to be held later this year aimed at the Latin American market. In its sixth year, “International Commercial Arbitration in Latin America: the ICC Perspective” will take place in Miami on 9-11 November. Offered in Spanish and English, the conference will allow participants to stay abreast of the latest developments in Latin American Arbitration.
