Fabio Bortolotti

Professor Bortolotti specialises in the field of international commercial law and has published a treaty on the law of international commercial contracts as well as several books and articles on these issues (see annexed list). Professor Bortolotti has collaborated for many years with the ICC and is, at present, the chairman of the ICC Commission on Commercial Law and Practice. Furthermore, Professor Bortolotti has chaired several ICC Task Forces which have drafted model contracts for international business (e.g. sale, agency, distribution and occasional intermediaries).

Vitae

In 1966 Professor Bortolotti graduated in law at the University of Torino. There, he also became a Professor of International Commercial Law and was admitted to the Torino bar in 1980. Professor Bortolotti has been active in the field of European antitrust law and - after Italy enacted the Antitrust Law 287/90 - in Italian competition law.

A founding partner of the law firm Bortolotti, Mathis & Associati, which is now part of the associated law firms Buffa, Bortolotti & Mathis, Professor Bortolotti assists multinational Italian and foreign companies particularly on matters regarding national and European antitrust law, negotiation of international contracts and international litigation. Professor Bortolotti has developed a particular specialisation in the field of domestic and international distribution law (commercial agency, distributorship, franchising, etc.) but is at the same time currently engaged in the traditional issues of cross-border contracts and international litigation, such as mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, licensing, international sales, sale of equipment, turnkey contracts, industrial cooperation, transfer of technology, etc.

Professor Bortolotti has acted and is at present engaged as an arbitrator or counsel in numerous international and domestic arbitrations as well institutional - particularly ICC - as ad hoc. Professor Bortolotti was involved in the drafting of the arbitration rules of the Piedmont Arbitral Chamber and the Curia Mercatorum of Treviso, particularly with respect to innovative procedures in the field of fast arbitration and mediation. Professor Borrtolotti contributed to the creation of the European Network for Dispute Resolution.

Professor Bortolotti has been dealing with various aspects of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) and has participated as an expert in several seminars on mediation techniques. He is an accredited mediator of the Centre for Dispute Resolution (CEDR).
