The agreement was signed today at the 5th World Chambers Congress

ICC and the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) Chamber of Commerce and Industry today signed a working and cooperation agreement.

The agreement  recognizes the common and complementary objectives of the two organizations, and that their members belong to the same community of businessmen, sharing the same desire to contribute to economic and social progress.

SAARC Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI), headquartered in Pakistan, brings together the national chamber organizations for Bangladesh (FBCCI), Bhutan (BCCI), India (FCCI), Maldives (MNCCI), Nepal (FNCCI), Pakistan (FPCCI) and Sri Lanka (FCCISL). The SCCI is recognized by its governments as the top trade organization of the region, with one of its key missions to develop an institutional framework for promoting economic cooperation within the region as well as abroad.

The agreement was signed today at the 5th World Chambers Congress by ICC Secretary General Guy Sebban, Chair of the World Chambers Federation Rona Yircali, and SAARC Director Waqar Ahmad Sheikh.

Mr Sheikh said: “This agreement will be mutually beneficial to both organizations. We look forward to working closely with ICC and increasing trade in our region.”

The terms of the agreement include:

  • ICC and SCCI will assist each other in making their activities more widely known, in particular through their respective contacts in their countries.
  • ICC and SCCI will invite each other, as well as their members, to send representatives to their respective general assemblies, conferences, and congresses, at an international, transnational and national level.
  • Seminar and other education programmes organized by SAARC on international trade, whenever possible, will promote and use as reference materials, key ICC publishing titles including Incoterms, UCP 600, and model contracts.
