Lawyers
against counterfeiting
Paris, 5
February 1998 - Set
up to combat the spread of economic counterfeiting, Counterforce is a global
network of more than 50 legal firms in over 48 countries. All specialize in
the field of intellectual property. Counterforce was established in 1995 by
the ICC Counterfeiting Intelligence Bureau(CIB). CIB is one of three units comprising
ICC Commercial Crime Services and is the only network of its kind existing in
the world.
Counterforce and the CIB are compiling a guide to the enforcement of intellectual
property rights in a number of countries. This is in response to the alarming
rate at which counterfeiting is spreading in such areas as electronic goods
and components, machines and equipment, electrical products, manufactured spare
parts of all types, pharmaceuticals and even high technology products.
Counterforce provides a valuable opportunity for information exchange among
its members, allowing them to discuss common problems in settling intellectual
property issues. Additionally, the Counterforce global network is at hand to
support and advise companies whose products or services are being counterfeited.
