Practical
trade advice from ICC on the Web
Paris, 9 January 1998
The ICC is a mine of expertise on
the mechanics of trade. It draws up many of the essential rules and procedures
used by traders and bankers around the world.
Today we introduce a new feature on our site so
that visitors to the ICCs Web pages can find answers quickly to their
questions. We start with an explanation of ICC Incoterms 1990, the standard
trade definitions used in countless contracts to remove ambiguities and prevent
misunderstandings.
A second heading covers the new ICC global service for the resolution of international
letter of credit disputes, known as DOCDEX.
There is also a report on the first major
revision of the ICC rules of arbitration
in more than 20 years. The new rules came into force on January 1. We provide
brief guidance on how existing contracts containing the ICC arbitration are
affected and links to the full text of the new rules.
New items under the heading of practical trade advice in the weeks ahead will
cover legal, financial and transport aspects of international trade. So watch
this space.
Visitors to the site who want to find out more about the mechanics of trade
should consult the list of ICC Publishing, whose books draw on the wealth of
knowledge available among the members of ICC commissions.
They include the recently published ICC Guide to Export-Import Basics, which
provides a clear and concise introduction to an increasingly complex subject.
Also from ICC Publishing: Incoterms 1990 Interactive software the
quick and efficient tool to access key information on international trade terms.
