Anti-counterfeiting investigators
form international network
London,
3 November 1999 -
A new weapon has been added to the anti-counterfeiting armoury with the formation
of a network of specialist investigators who can provide on-the-spot assistance
to victims throughout the world.
The Countersearch network
complements the activities of the Counterfeiting Intelligence Bureau, one of
three bureaux of ICC Commercial Crime Services, a division of the International
Chamber of Commerce.
Peter Lowe, Assistant Director
of CIB, said: "Investigations of counterfeiting are becoming increasingly difficult
and dangerous in many parts of the world, given the growing sophistication and
ruthlessness of criminals.
"By forming this network,
which includes many of the world's leading experts in the field, we give our
members and other companies easy access to the best investigative expertise
in most countries."
Countersearch becomes the
third part of a trio of networks set up by the CIB. Counterforce
comprises leading international law firms specialising in intellectual property
fraud, while Countertech
is made up of manufacturers of anti counterfeiting technology.
