Business in Africa comes to ICC web site
Paris, 12
February 1999 - The
International Chamber of Commerce has today launched a special African site
on its web pages which will keep visitors in touch with how ICCs work
with key business networks across Africa is progressing.
Business in Africa will keep members
up-to-date with initiatives to attract investment to the region, inform readers
of the specific benefits that ICC membership can bring to African business,
and provide links to useful, related web sites.
The creation of the site comes at a time when ICC
is more active than ever in African affairs. The organization recently launched
a joint project with the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development
(UNCTAD) to prepare investment guides and provide assistance to help six of
the worlds least developed countries, five of them African, to become
more attractive to foreign direct investors.
The number of ICC national committees in Africa
is set to rise this year. The inauguration of ICC Ghana, Uganda and Zimbabwe
is imminent, while Nigeria and Zambia also hope to form their own national committees
in the near future. ICC has more than 60 national committees, each of which
has its own secretariat and has a representative membership of companies and
business associations across the full range of the countrys industries.
"African business is well aware that it must
be fully-integrated in the global economy if it is to realize its full potential,"said
Hubert Danso, ICCs Senior Advisor for African Affairs. "This site
is intended to be a modest contribution to that process."
