Be a fly on the wall at the Incoterms 2000 inaugural conference

Paris, 26 May 2000 - A full transcript of the launch conference in Paris for ICC's Incoterms 2000, the world standard for the interpretation of trade terms, is now available in book form.

This is the inside story of this first revision for 10 years of Incoterms, the 13 sales terms created by ICC for use in contracts for the international sale of goods.

Incoterms 2000 A Forum of Experts is available from ICC Publishing SA here in Paris, through our online Business Bookstore, and from ICC national committees on every continent.

ICC has been holding briefing seminars on the new terms throughout the world both in the run up to their introduction on 1 January 2000 and since.

Bankers, lawyers, traders and other users of the terms who could not get to one of those sessions can now be as well briefed as those who did manage to attend the inaugural conference in Paris in September 1999.

Why was a revision of Incoterms undertaken at all at this time? What are the important changes introduced since the last version? What happens if parties use the wrong Incoterm? Is the terminology in Incoterms consistent with that used in the ICC rules on documentary credits? The experts deal with these and many other questions.

You can be sure of getting the right answers, because they come from the people who know best - four key members of the group of experts who drafted the rules:

· Jan Ramberg, Professor of Private Law, University of Stockholm;
· Philippe Rapatout, Senior Advisor, Logistics Division, ATOFINA, France;
· Frank Reynolds, President, International Projects, Inc., USA;
· Charles Debattista, Professor of Commercial Law, University of Southampton, UK.
