New Secretary General for ICC Court of Arbitration

Paris, 23 May 2001 - The International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) has announced the appointment of Anne Marie Whitesell as new Secretary General of the ICC International Court of Arbitration, the world's leading arbitration institution.
Mrs Whitesell, who is an American citizen, has been Deputy Secretary General of the Court since September 1998. She joined the ICC Court as a Counsel in June 1996.
She officially assumes her functions on October 1.
The new Secretary General takes over from Horacio Grigera Na³n, an Argentine lawyer, who leaves ICC to return to private practice after almost five years with the ICC Court. Mr Grigera Na³n will take up a Special Counsel position with White and Case in Washington, D.C. He will also act independently as an arbitrator.
Anne Marie Whitesell was awarded her Bachelor of Arts degree from Smith College in 1981 and thereafter worked as a Fulbright Teaching Assistant in France. She received her law degree from the University of Virginia School of Law in 1985 and was awarded a Doctorate in law from the Université de Paris I, Panthéon-Sorbonne.
She was admitted to the New York State Bar in 1986 and to the United States District Courts for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York in 1987.
She has practised with law firms in the United States and in France and was a lecturer at the Université de Paris I, Panthéon-Sorbonne and the Institut de Droit Comparé (Université de Paris II).
