Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, 18 September 2002 - Saudi leaders have told an international business delegation that efforts to undermine their country's strategic relationship with the United States and other key trading partners are bound to fail.
The International Chamber of Commerce representatives conferred with Crown Prince Abdullah and Prince Sultan, Minister of Defence and Aviation, at the weekend.
After the meetings, ICC President Richard D. McCormick said: "We received a cle
ar message from the Saudi leaders that those attempting to drive wedges between Saudi Arabia and the US and other partners are wasting their time."
Mr. McCormick, former chairman and CEO of U S WEST, was accompanied by his predecessor as ICC President, Adnan Kassar, and a leading Saudi businessman, Khaled Jufalli, a member of the ICC Executive Board. Mr Kassar, from Lebanon, is an international banker who has assumed a prominent role in promoting closer business ties between Arab countries.
From Saudi Arabia, the ICC leaders flew to Damascus to take part in an ICC regional meeting for the Arab world hosted by the world business organization's Syrian national committee.
