Paris,

- Business efforts to reduce poverty in line with the UN Millennium Development
Goals will be recognised in a new joint ICC-United Nations award to be
handed out at next year's ICC World Congress in Marrakesh.
Nominations are now
being sought for the "World Business Awards in support of the Millennium
Development Goals" - a joint initiative of ICC, the United Nations
Development Programme (UNDP) and the International Business Leaders Forum

The awards are the
first to recognize the significant role business can play in the realization
of Kofi Annan's Millennium Development Goals.
The eight goals, which have a target date of 2015, include the eradication
of extreme
hunger, universal primary education, promotion of gender equality
and the reduction of child mortality. For full details on the Millennium
Development Goals see: www.undp.org/mdg.
Every business entity
- including business associations, confederations and individual companies
of all sizes from any country - is eligible for an award.
Nominations can be submitted by the business entities themselves, or by
others seeking to acknowledge their contributions.
An international selection panel, led by Lord Holme of Cheltenham, will
seek to acknowledge companies who have made an innovative contribution
