Find the right words to trade in five languages

Anybody know the Spanish for "Free on board" (FOB)?

Paris, 1 September 2003 - Flights of literary fancy have no place when it comes to translating the vocabulary of trade in that international contract or even during negotiations. You have to find the right word or risk confusion or worse.

The International Chamber of Commerce has come up with the answer for the hard-pressed business executive casting about for the Italian for "Duties on Buyers' Account" (diritti di confini), the English for "Preissicheringsklausel" (price escalation clause), and innumerable other linguistic conundrums.

You will find 3,000 entries and their equivalents in English, French, Italian, German and Spanish in Key Words in International Trade, the fourth edition of this indispensable reference work for traders first published in 1989.

The translated terms and abbreviations are those most commonly used in international law and commerce. They are taken from the fields of banking, transport, management, marketing, arbitration, trade, information technology and, telecommunications.

An ICC international team of experts has meticulously checked each term, leaving out when in doubt. Several hundred new ones were added to the present edition to keep up with recent legal and technical developments and the increasing complexity of the global marketplace.

Key Words has five different language indexes, each arranged in alphabetical order, with the term or abbreviation in English cross-referenced by number to its equivalent in four other languages. This provides easy accessibility for the reader.

Business executives, traders, lawyers, transporters and academics will find Key Words to be the most authoritative and up-to-date guide to the most frequently used words and expressions they need to know in their everyday business. The current edition was published in 2000.

Key Words in International Trade (Fourth Edition) may be ordered from ICC Publishing, in Paris, online from the ICC Business Bookstore, or from ICC national committees around the world.
