festival provides setting for unique conference

Paris,
3 May 2004 -
Film professionals, from award-winning writers and directors to producers
and entertainment lawyers, will converge in Cannes on 13-14 May to discuss
some of the major legal and practical issues they face in adapting literary
works to cinema and remaking films.
ICC's 18th Conference
on International Audiovisual Law, 'Books, Movies and Remakes', is timed
to coincide with the 57th International Cannes Film Festival. Among the
topics slated for discussion: distinguishing between 'inspired by' works
and plagiarism, adapting contracts for comics to animated works or films
and the working relationship between the producer and legal beneficiaries
of an original work.

The conference is
being jointly staged by ICC's Institute
of World Business Law, the International Bar Association (IBA) and
the International Association of Entertainment Lawyers (IAEL).

said Executive Manager of the ICC Institute of World Business Law, Laetitia
