ICC Secretary General to complete third and final mandate next year

Maria Livanos Cattaui

Paris, 17 December 2004 - ICC today announced that its current Secretary General, Maria Livanos Cattaui, will conclude her third and final term with the world business organization in mid-2005.

Maria Livanos Cattaui has been Secretary General of ICC since her appointment by the ICC World Council in 1996.

Current and past chairmen of ICC who have worked with Mrs Cattaui today expressed their gratitude for the job she has done.

"Maria brought exactly the kind of dynamism and energy to the work of ICC that I believe is required to maintain the organization's proud claim to being the voice of world business," said current ICC Chairman and CEO of Vivendi Universal, Jean-René Fourtou.

Former ICC Chairman (2000-2002) and Chairman Emeritus of US West, Richard D. McCormick said: "There are few people who could bring the same talent and dedication to their work as Maria Cattaui. Her commitment to furthering the global influence of ICC and raising its profile among companies and governments has been unfaltering. She has been a superb Secretary General. It has been a pleasure to work with her on many critical issues facing business and countries around the world."

Former ICC Chairman (1999-2000) and Chairman and CEO of Fransabank Group, Adnan Kassar said: "During my tenure as ICC Chairman, I had the pleasure of working closely with Maria who always brought vitality and energy to all of ICC's activities and functions. We had the satisfaction of working together to increase the number of ICC national committees around the world, and thus further spread the organization's global reach."

Former ICC Chairman (1997-1998) and former CEO of Nestlé, Helmut Maucher said: "Maria brought life into ICC. She raised awareness among companies and beyond for what actually matters in the globalizing environment for businesses of all sectors and all sizes. She modernized the issues discussed in the different parts of the organization so ICC is well prepared for the 21st century."

Mrs Cattaui, who will continue as ICC Secretary General until mid-2005, said: "It has been an honour to serve as Secretary General of this most venerable of institutions. I am confident that ICC will continue to grow in stature and importance, reflecting its role as the world's truly global business organization, the authoritative voice of business everywhere."
