Global Business Day at Poznan Climate Change Conference to feature high-level panellists

The Poznań Business Day will be held in Hall 4 at the Poznań International Fair, on Tuesday, 9 December 2008

ICC and the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) are jointly staging a Global Business Day to give governments clear business insights and ideas to help them progress towards a workable climate policy framework. The Business Day will take place during the 14th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) in Poznań. The event is also supported by the Polish Government and the UNFCCC secretariat.

 

The Business Day will consider climate issues from the integrated perspective of business, energy, trade, the economy and social development. It will bring together a large contingent of business and government representatives for high-level talks about ways to reach a positive outcome from the Bali Action Plan.

 

VENUE

The Poznań Business Day will be held in Hall 4 at the Poznań International Fair, the site of the UN Climate Change Conference, on Tuesday, 9 December 2008, from 8.50am to 5pm. Please see  www.poznanbusinessday.org   for a full list of participants.

MEDIA BRIEFINGS

ICC and WBCSD will co-host two media briefings about the Business Day.

Monday, December 8, 3-3.30pm, Media Centre, Pavilion 8A, Poznań International Fair:  This briefing will detail what can be expected at the Business Day the next day and launch a new WBCSD report, Power to Change: A business contribution to a low-carbon electricity future. Business leaders from electricity utilities will be on hand to answer questions.

Wednesday, December 10, 2-2.30pm, Media Centre, Pavilion 8A, Poznań International Fai r: Guy Sebban, ICC Secretary General, and Björn Stigson, WBCSD President, will outline the key outcomes of the Business Day and discuss the way forward. Michael Zarin, Government Relations Director for   renewable energy company Vestas Wind Systems, will talk about the business contribution to a sustainable future.

Business views on Sectoral Approaches

ICC will demonstrate varied business views on sectoral approaches. The event will bring together a number of sectors which have developed approaches/initiatives resulting in improved monitoring, reporting and GHG emissions reductions

Monday, 8 December, 1-3pm, Room Grebe 3

Technology Development and Deployment to address Climate Change
The ICC event will explore how business makes long-term investment decisions particularly in the deployment of low-carbon technologies. Business is the primary source of innovation and, provided with the right enabling framework, is a critical actor in the development, commercialization and dissemination of technology.


Wednesday, 10 December, 1-3pm, Hall 15C – Wild Sheep
Business Views on a Post 2012 Framework Agreement
Business will be responsible for the vast majority of investments and technological resources required to mitigate and adapt to climate change in developed and developing countries. This ICC event will provide global business perspectives on the development of a post 2012 UNFCCC framework.
