A new Chairman of the ICC International Court of Arbitration was elected and a new Secretary General of the International Chamber of Commerce appointed today at the meeting of ICC's World Council, which brought together business members from around the world. The World Council met on the occasion of ICC's World Chambers Congress in Durban.
Pierre Tercier elected Chairman of the ICC International Court of Arbitration
Pierre Tercier, a Swiss national and a professor at the University of Fribourg, Switzerland, was today elected Chairman of the ICC International Court of Arbitration. He has extensive international arbitration and dispute resolution experience, having served on numerous occasions in ICC cases. He is highly respected in the international legal and business community as an arbitrator, lecturer and author. Professor Tercier was formerly the Chairman of the Swiss Cartel Commission and the Swiss Insurance Law Society. He will assume the functions of Chairman of the ICC Court as of 1 March 2006.

Guy Sebban appointed Secretary General of ICC
Guy Sebban, a French national, has been closely involved with ICC members for some
years assisting Jean-Rene Fourtou during his Chairmanship of ICC. He has had a wide and varied international experience on both the operational and policy sides of business, most recently as a Senior Advisor at Vivendi Universal. Prior to that, he served as the head of Rhone Poulenc (and then Aventis) Brussels, in charge of relations with EU institutions. He will assume the functions of Secretary General of ICC on 1 July 2005.
In accepting his new position immediately after the appointment, Mr Sebban stressed that he shares all the values of ICC and added:
"I am deeply convinced that
a rules-based, multilateral trading system is really necessary and has to be promoted for a better world."
He promised to work to strengthen ICC from within - particularly its specialized divisions and national committees

and to further promote ICC's image as an internationally recognized leader in multilateral trade and entrepreneurship.
