Practitioners with extensive experience in international commercial arbitration will have a unique opportunity to sharpen their skills by participating in a study of a complex mock case under the ICC Rules of Arbitration.
The seminar is the first advanced-level training on international commercial arbitration organized by ICC in both English and French.
The advanced level training, under the auspices of the ICC Institute of World Business Law, will be held at ICC headquarters in Paris on 16-19 November. It will allow participants to take part in a mock arbitration proceeding involving a set of complex circumstances, as well as to benefit from the practical and technical presentations by some of the world’s leading arbitrators.
The sessions are designed for practising lawyers, corporate counsel, arbitrators, magistrates, academics, dispute resolution experts and users who have a strong experience of international commercial arbitration, in particular with ICC procedures, and who wish to deepen their practical knowledge and share their views with international practitioners.
The program includes working groups on setting up the claimant’s strategy in preparing arbitration requests and analyzing different procedural options and dispute resolution methods and on setting up the respondent’s strategy and answers. Participants will also prepare witnesses and experts for the simulation of a cross-examination.
Other sessions will deal with the conduct of complex proceedings – issues of bifurcation, the resolution of procedural incidents, conflicts of interest and the challenges faced by arbitrators.
Participants will also discuss the Arbitral Tribunal’s deliberations and the enforceability of awards, particularly on the issue of State immunity.
The programme will gather around 50 participants and the working groups will be limited to about 10 people.
