The International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) has teamed up with the International Federation of Consulting Engineers (FIDIC) to host a conference on international construction contracts and dispute resolution in Paris next month.

World renowned experts in the field will gather from 17-18 October 2005 to review the procedure for claims and disputes under the FIDIC Conditions of Contract, the most widely used standard forms of international construction contract.

Delegates from different lines of work from various parts of the world, such as engineers, contractors, employers, financial institutions, arbitrators and legal advisors in the field of international arbitration, will participate in interactive discussions on the specific features of dispute resolution settlement techniques under international construction contracts and their practical implications.

Christopher Seppälä, the Legal Advisor of the FIDIC Contracts Committee, said: “The conference is a significant event as international construction disputes have for many years represented a significant portion of the disputes submitted to the ICC International Court of Arbitration and this is one of the first times that the Multilateral Development Bank Harmonized Edition (May 2005) of FIDIC’s Conditions of Contract for Construction (“Red Book”) is presented at a major conference.”

Other topics to be covered at the event include the use of FIDIC Contract forms in private contracts (Yellow and Silver books), multi-party arbitration, dispute boards in civil law countries and dispute resolution options available in contracts with sovereign entities.
