On 31 March 2009, the ICC YAF Africa, Middle East and Turkey Chapter held its first YAF event in Central Asia.
The Event was hosted by the ‘GRATA’ law firm.
Speakers were private practitioners, a representative from a local arbitration institution, a state court judge, ICC Secretariat member (Yulia Khvan) and YAF Regional Coordinator (Bennar Balkaya).
In total more than 70 people participated, including practitioners from law firms, professors, students and representatives from Ministry of Foreign Economic Affairs, Ministry of Justice and “Uzinfolnvest” State Investment Agency.
The participants took the opportunity to discuss hot topics such as the adoption of the Law on International Commercial Arbitration, the enforcement of awards when State investment entities are involved, the establishment of an international arbitral institution in Uzbekistan.
